The Perfect Cosy Cotswolds Itinerary to Fix the Winter Blues

Here at Pomelo, we truly embrace seasonality, so as we throw ourselves headfirst into the winter season, we’ve decided to help you do the same. Having lived and worked in London for the last five years, there’s nothing I love more than jumping in the car on a Sunday morning and heading to the Cotswolds for the day. I have therefore taken it upon myself to share my perfect cosy Cotswolds itinerary with you for the chilly months ahead.

Breakfast and Browsing at Daylesford Organic

The first port of call is unquestionably Daylesford Organic. Terribly cliché and filled with the rubbery patter of Dubarrys that haven’t seen a speck of mud since being purchased – but an undeniably gorgeous spot to start the day. Firstly, head into the Trough restaurant to browse their delicious and straightforward breakfast menu (smoked salmon and scrambled egg for me!). Once you’re set up for the day, why not enjoy a browse of the farm shop, filled to the brim with Daylesford Organic homegrown produce and homeware accessories? This is the perfect place to grab some luxurious gifts for your loved ones – sorry it wasn’t in time for Christmas.

A Morning Mooch in Stow-on-the-Wold

Once finished at Daylesford, jump back in the car and head to the quintessential English town of Stow-on-the-Wold. After fighting off the rabid drivers to secure a highly sought-after parking space, head into the market square. With its historic charm and bustling atmosphere, ease in and enjoy the endless antique shops, filled with hidden gems and one-of-a-kind gift ideas – or perhaps something nice for yourself?

Afternoon drinks at The Wild Rabbit

Shopping complete, it’s finally time for a drink (or two). Just a 15-minute drive away is the wonderful pub The Wild Rabbit. I recommend securing a spot by the fire and ensuring you have a generous glass of Love Rouge de Léoube in hand ASAP. After a couple of tipples, you’re surely ready for the star of the show – The Roast!

The Ultimate Sunday Roast at Fox

Just 5 minutes down the road there is the rustic-chic country pub The Fox at Oddington. This is the perfect landscape for a cozy, wholesome Sunday Lunch. Fill your boots and enjoy all of the local produce that this stunning slice of the English countryside has to offer. The Fox’s Sunday Lunch menu offers something to please everyone. I can personally recommend the roast belly pork with crackling and apple sauce – truly delicious! For veggies and vegans, the butternut squash, chestnut mushroom and sage nut roast was divine, and I would’ve very happily ordered it over a meat dish. This is the ultimate British country pub roast experience – one of the best showcases of UK cuisine, which gets a pretty harsh rep compared to many other countries. Pay a visit to The Fox to prove them wrong…

Whether your roast is followed by a drive back to London, or a luxuriously snug night away in one of the area’s many boutique hotels – I hope our Cotswolds winter itinerary has given you some food for thought and some thought for food!
